Michael's Book Club

"What happens in the book club, stays in the book club"

I have always wanted to launch a Book Club to provide the more serious readers in the morning show audience with a chance to get together with one another and meet authors. With the spectacular, sold-out launch on May 12, 2005, featuring Nelson DeMille, we were off and running. DeMille was top shelf and wowed a standing room only crowd on the Book Club Inauguration. He spoke at length about the facts surrounding the downing of TWA flight 800 and then explained how he wove fictitious elements into the real plotline to create best seller Night Fall. His appearance was more than I could have asked for.

So that's where it all began! The best part, nobody can blackball you from my book club except me (hey, I know how that feels), and I can think of only four people in the world who I won't let in! So odds are, if you wish to come aboard, we will have you.

There is no membership fee. There is no application. Just pay attention to the Morning Show and register immediately when I speak of the next meeting because the demand appears high.

Here's the line up of Authors and Books that I've had the privilege of hosting - we look forward to seeing you at the next event!

Michael Smerconish Book Club Presents Chris Matthews

The Big Talker 1210 AM's Michael Smerconish welcomes, Chris Matthews to Book Club at the National Constitution Center on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at 7:00pm for a conversation about his new book  Life's A Campaign: What Politics Has Taught Me About Friendship, Rivalry, Reputation and Success.

Written in his trademark assertive, good-natured style, Life's A Campaign is the culmination of the nearly forty years Matthews has spent working and observing in the halls of Congress, the White House, and among the media. Featuring fascinating anecdotes and case histories, Matthews lays out the ways presidents, senators, and other powerful people persuade others and win and what we can learn from them.

Chris Matthews has distinguished himself as a journalist with a remarkable depth of experience. He is the anchor of MSNBC's "Hardball with Chris Matthews", NBC's "The Chris Matthews Show", as well as a regular commentator on "Today". He also writes a nationally syndicated column for the San Francisco Chronicle. Early in his career, Matthews worked inside the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. He was a presidential speechwriter for Jimmy Carter and top aide to Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill, former Speaker of the House. He is the author of four best-selling books, including Hardball, Kennedy and Nixon, and Now Let Me Tell You What I Really Think.
